By Nik Fairbrother, 8th Dan, Koka Kids editor.
What really makes my day is when coaches send in photos of the resources being used in their dojos. Recently, Sensei Allison Finn from Patchway Judo Club shared some pictures of her young judoka receiving the Koka Kids Makura-Kesa-Gatame Certificates, and the Tai-Otoshi Certificates. Seeing the materials actually helping kids learn judo – that’s a huge win!
When I started Koka Kids, one of my main goals was to make life easier for busy judo coaches. I created the Koka Kids Judo Coach Resources Library – a weekly newsletter packed with downloadable, printable resources that coaches can use right away.
Which is now being delivered by a new platform called Substack.
I stumbled across Substack almost by accident. Before that, I was using Mailchimp and paying for the privilege. Substack not only offers the same service for free, but it also gave me a simple way to create a website archive of all our previous resources. Everything in one place, easy to access.
The response has been quietly encouraging. We’ve grown to about 1,500 subscribers now. But numbers only tell part of the story. It’s the smiles on the faces of these kids that tell it better than I can put into words.
If you’re a judo coach looking for fresh ideas, you’re welcome to join us. A year’s subscription gives you access to everything we’ve created. Plus you’ll get all the new stuff like I-Dojo.
