Nik Fairbrother

Olympic silver medallist, Nik Fairbrother is the creator of the children’s judo programme Koka Kids.

Hi, I’m Nik Fairbrother …

At the Barcelona 1992 Olympic Games, I won the Olympic silver medal.

A year later, I achieved my life long ambition of becoming a world judo champion.

It had been my dream, since reading Kashiwazaki’s Fighting Judo to become a judo world champion.

I won the judo world title in Hamilton Canada throwing (see the video) Chiyori Tateno of Japan for waza-ari.

I wanted to give something back to the sport that had given me so much, and so, when I retired, I created Koka Kids.

What is Koka Kids?

Koka Kids supplies coaching material and teaching aids to judo coaches all over the world.

If you are judo coach and looking for a help on specific project or book – please get in touch.

Scroll down to see examples of my work with judo clubs all over the world and National Governing Bodies.

My goals are to inspire and educate children.

Over the years, I have published thousands of judo books and magazines.

Judo & Life – it’s the same isn’t it?

I started judo at the Pinewood Judo Club in Berkshire, England, taught by Don Werner (7th Dan) Sensei.

Don was an incredible teacher, who taught me much about life, as well as judo.

Don helped me form my core values, of what I believe to be important in life and in judo.

What I believe is important

When I create a Koka Kids product or resource I aim to:

100% Junior Judo

Create with the junior judoka in mind.

Encourage and engage this age group.

Get kids to read more using a subject they love.

Technique Matters

Use world-class technique, drills and tips to teach from. Don’t dumb it down!

Use the lessons I’ve learnt during 40 years in judo to keep it real.

Ask the Coaches

Understand what judo coaches need.

Create Coaching Resources to reinforce lessons.

Visual Learning

Build a library of visual judo graphics.

Provide step by step guides to techniques, newaza and judo throws.
