SUMI-GAESHI is a suitable for advancing Brown Belt students and is required by British Judo Association to grade to 17th Mon or 1st Kyu. Learning sutemi-waza (sacrifice throws) will open up many new opportunities to attack. A common challenge for all sutemi-waza is making sure you have the element of surprise on your side – and not giving the game away. Practice sumi-gaeshi from a variety of grips and positions so your partner can’t guess when you are going to attack and don’t over use the throw.
