Kata-Guruma See How to Do this Judo Throw

Kata-guruma is now banned in competitive judo (as you can’t take hold of the trouser leg). It is still one of the 40 judo throws in the Gokyo and so we are including it in these tutorials.

How to throw with Kata-guruma

  1. Let go of your grip on the lapel. Bending your knees grab uke’s leg.
  2. Lift uke onto your back in a “fireman lift” making sure you use your legs to lift.
  3. Keeping control, tip uke off your back, pull through with the sleeve and lower towards the mat.
  4. Ippon!

Want to learn all the techniques in The Gokyo? Yes, we thought so! That’s why we have put them all in this book.

It comes in a handy A5 booklet size and contains a progress chart which you can tick off as you learn each judo throw.
