UDE-GATAME is an armlock and a technique suitable for Green Belt students and is required by British Judo Association for 10th Mon or 3rd Kyu grade. It’s a useful technique to know for when uke pushes against you during newaza, as you can use their push to your advantage. Judoka typically find it difficult to apply the armlock. A helpful training tip is to trap the wrist against your shoulder with your chin and using your arms rotate the arm until your find the point the elbow locks – always apply pressure slowly and gradually and be ready to release.
