For more tips: Go to page 18 of Learn Groundwork 20 Judo Turnovers

Level: Beginners and upwards

The Shoulder Roll is a turnover to use when your partner defends on all four. It’s simple to do. Reach under uke’s body with one arm and over their shoulder with the other. Pressure down on the shoulder as you roll uke over. Move into Yoko-Shiho-Gatame!

Next Turnover: Once you’ve got the hang of the Shoulder Roll try the Step Over.

For advanced judoka: Be ready to try this turnover as a counter when uke drops to their knees with a Seoi-Nage.
