The Lapel Roll is a turnover to use when your partner is on all fours. It’s a dynamic move. Grab uke’s collars and swing your leg underneath. Study carefully how to thread your arm under and over as you move uke onto their back
Next Turnover: Once you’ve got the hang of the Lapel Roll – try the Side Roll or the Standing Crush!
Go to Groundwork Judo Turnovers to see all animations.
For advanced judoka: Be ready to try this turnover as a counter when you tai-sabaki a harai-goshi or uchi-mata and your opponent falls forwards onto all fours. Be quick and go for the lapel roll.
