KOSOTO-GARI – Orange Belt Level Judo Throw
KOSOTO-GARI is a throw suitable for progressing Orange Belt students and is required by British Judo Association to grade to 8th Mon or 4th Kyu. A fantastic throw, Kosoto-Gari can be used to move your partner and change their stance by getting them to move their forward foot backwards. This is turn opens your partner up for another attack, or of course as well all throws Kosoto-gari can be used as a direct attack. A common difficulty is getting the timing right and knowing when to attack the foot. Focus on anticipating your partner’s step and aim to attack their foot just before they place it on the tatami.
