KAMI-SHIHO-GATAME is a core hold down and suitable for Yellow Belt judoka and is required by British Judo Association for grading to 4th Mon or 5th Kyu level. This hold down is one of the main three hold downs all judoka should learn and is ideal to do when you are at uke’s head. Judoka, at the start, typically find it difficult to control their partner as they move and try to escape. One effective training method is to practice this situation. As your partner rocks you from side to side adjust your position by moving to one side or the other to counter act your partner’s escape attempt.
