Level: Intermediates and upwards
The Belt Flip is a turnover to use when your partner defends by laying flat. Grab their belt with one hand, and pull their head onto your knee. Stick your leg out and pull uke over your leg and into a Tate-shiho-gatame.
Next Turnover: Once you’ve got the hang of the Belt Flip – try the Twist Back, and the Lapel Roll
Go to Groundwork Judo Turnovers to see all animations.
For advanced judoka: Be ready to try this turnover if uke turns out of one of your attacks and lands on their front. Follow into groundwork fast!
