New Members, June 2008
BEXLEY JUDO KWAI
After moving to our fantastic new facilities at The Dojo Sidcup, based
in Sidcup Rugby Club, we decided to get everyone on board and pay an
annual membership fee.
We wanted to include something within our membership, so that members
weren't just paying for the privilege of being Bexley Judokwai
members! Therefore, we decided to include in our annual fee, free
subscription to the Koka Kids magazine for that period.
For us this meant we knew exactly how many Koka Kids magazines to
order and we knew that all our junior members were receiving regular
information on judo, on what was happening in this country and abroad.
Everyone was happy! Would definitely recommend to other clubs to
include their Koka Kids subscription into their members membership fee

PINEWOOD JUDO CLUB
I think it is well thought out and it appeals to our children
immensely. I give a copy to all of my beginners and Intermediate class
Judoka. Then the Advanced class will pester me for a copy too, even
some of the Dan grades. I read it and like the content, but I doubt if
I will ever win a Judogi because I find the puzzles difficult.

I was really pleased when I gave the magazine to my juniors. The
response was quite interesting. The older kids read the mag cover to
cover and asked loads of questions. The five and six year olds who
don't read but love to look at the pictures. I asked my grandson
Shane, who is six (future World & Olympic champion) what he thought
of
the mag - he thinks its cool.

As a mother, a coach, a world judo champion and a college professor, I
want my own children and those who I coach to develop into healthy,
self-confident, well-read people. Being a good reader is going to help
any child in school, in self-esteem. GETTING them to read when they
are young and would rather play with their friends or watch TV, that's
the tricky part, isn't it? Koka Kids is awesome. All of my judo kids
read it. We have learned to give it out at the end of practice, after
we bow out, or they are all sneaking peeks at the magazine when we are
teaching.
Here is the secret no one else confesses - EVERYONE in our house reads
it, we just pretend we get it for my little nine-year-old! Koka Kids
is like Harry Potter when it first came out in that it is supposed to
be for children but lots and lots of adults read it. Why not? It has
stories on players from the U.S., U.K. and around the world, great
judo photos.
Come on, admit it - most of us are just kids at heart.

it is highly informative and love the funky format of the magazine.

WINSLOW JUDO CLUB
Winslow Judo club in Buckinghamshire have been subscribing to KoKa
Kids for several years now and are delighted with the magazine. Each
member of the Junior section gets a copy as part of their membership
and they love it.
The club is 'Twinned' with a French Judo club and copies have been
taken there as a little gift, Mereveilleux, they say! We usually try
the key technique featured each edition, over several weeks sessions,
developing it and find the fun way it is presented by the cartoon
characters helps the players learn and improve. KK is a great
coaching aid and it's helping us retain players in the sport.
